Born in Liverpool in 1935, April Ashley MBE, a former Vogue model and actress was one of the first people in the world to undergo pioneering gender reassignment surgery and has for many years been a tireless campaigner for transgender equality. April is an icon and inspiration to many.
The Museum of Liverpool’s exhibition based on her life attracted 930,000 visitors and in 2015 she became a Liverpool Citizen of Honour.
